Go Paperless and Get Organized With Evernote: Evernote Basic Information

Before I started using Evernote as my digital filing cabinet, I did the research to make sure I was making a good decision.  This article from Michael Hyatt sealed the deal for me:  Is Your Data Safe in Evernote.  Here are the highlights:

  • Evernote is here to stay.  It's a financially thriving company.
  • Evernote makes it clear that your data is owned by you.
  • Evernote data is stored both locally and in the cloud.
  • Evernote can encrypt sensitive data within a note.
  • You can choose to store your Evernote notes locally only.
  • Evernote data can be exported and taken somewhere else.
There are no guarantees in life or with Evernote, but I am comfortable with storing my data in Evernote because of the policy that they do not own my data and that I can download and take my information elsewhere.
If you are still not convinced Evernote is right for you, there are alternatives, just Google "Evernote Alternatives".

One alternative is  Microsoft OneNote.  In fact, I started using OneNote before I tried Evernote.  I really liked how flexible it was and I could get creative with it.  It worked great on my laptop, but that greatness didn't translate to my phone.  Also, I wanted to be able to share notes with my husband and he didn't have OneNote.  I did some research and found we could both have Evernote for free and could easily share notes via email.

Are you ready to try Evernote?
